Hopefully this will help anyone else with this same error: the version of iphoto installed on this mac must be updated through the mac app store. Photos can now be exported from Photo Stream using the Export command in the File menu. The update, a 759 megabyte download, adds the following fixes and changes: Photos can now be deleted from My Photo Stream by dragging to the Trash. Obviously you won't be able to view/manipulate the photos when your external drive is disconnected. To determine if that repair is necessary, post to the forum, and someone will be able to help you to find out which repairs might be necessary. MAC OS 10.6.8 IPHOTO MAC OS X Java is outdated in terms of security in Mac OS X 10.6. Go to iPhoto->Preferences->Advanced and uncheck 'Copy items to the iPhoto Library'. Backup your data and at least update to 10.6.8 if your Mac says it is Intel in Apple menu -> About this Mac. On Tuesday, Apple released its iPhoto 9.4.3 update. I'm using an older version of iPhoto (iPhoto '11 - version 9.4.3) but I'm sure this option still exists in newer versions. Sudo rm -r /Applications/ iPhoto.app/Contents/_MASReceipt Never knock an iPhoto update, as huge as they may be. Fortunately I found this awesome workaround if you are comfortable working with the console in osx When I found an update to iphoto it also wouldn’t install due to the mac thinking it was linked to an app store account.
